CORPUS CHRISTI, TX. — Good food and good company is just one of the things folks look forward on Christmas Day. Today, a local restaurant kept that in mind as it fed hundreds of people a hot lunch at no cost to them.

For the fifth year in a row, staff at People's Restaurant served a christmas meal, all because they want to give back to the community.

When their doors opened at 11 a.m., they had enough food for about 500 people. Many of those who ate are currently staying at the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. But for the holiday they made the trip to the restaurant in Calallen.

For most people, the magic of Christmas is being surrounded by loved ones. However, sometimes that can be hard especially if you're homeless.

"(I'm) eating here for Christmas because I don't have any family to go home to right now, and I'm homeless," said Mary Collins, who enjoyed a meal.

That's why this meal brought a lot of joy to those who made the trip.

"It may not seem like a lot to a lot of people, but it brings people together," said Jesse Ruiz, who ate a meal. "We're really appreciative they (staff) take the time to take care of us and take care of the community."
