CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department is preparing for a busy night.

They will be on New Year's Eve patrol tonight.

Calls for illegal fireworks activity are expected to pick up as we approach midnight.

Police and the Corpus Christi Fire Department want to remind residents that setting off fireworks inside the city limits is illegal.

If you're caught lighting fireworks, you could face a fine of up to $2,000 for each opened package of fireworks in your possession.

And another concern tonight is celebratory gunfire.

It’s not just illegal, it is dangerous.

If you're caught firing a gun, you could face jail time and a fine of up to $4,000.

All law enforcement agencies will also be on the lookout for drunk drivers.
