Art students with the K Space Contemporary summer camp are almost done with their latest mural.
They are putting on the finishing touches before their big reveal.
Art students have worked very hard putting in long hours in the Texas heat; But the project is almost complete and portrays a powerful message. With each dab of fresh paint and every artistic stroke brings life to the K Space Contemporary building downtown on Starr Street. The man behind this design is Tony Armadillo.
“One of the things I would tell the students is whatever you're going to create, try to create the art piece with a particular message, you may be the only person to understand that message but hopefully you can create something that has meaningful symbols messages for people to relate to,” says artist Tony Armadillo.
On the side of the building welcomes a new face or better yet a new message and that is the Connections Mural. The man behind this design is Tony Armadillo.
The masterpiece shows a young boy, ready to release his marble, it will then strike the other marbles and this chain reaction is symbolic on how other artists influence each other.
“They're going to see this leaving the legacy in the city and now this is going to become a landmark,” says muralist Sandra Gonzalez.
Muralist Sandra Gonzalez says this took a lot of teamwork.
Many art students from the K Space Contemporary summer camp helped bring this vision to life.
Gonzalez says this is something the young students can look back on and be proud of for many years to come.
Two mural dedications will take place Saturday, August 10th, 2019
The first ceremony will start at 11 am at La Palmera Mall with artists Mayra Zamora and Monica Marie Garcia.
The Connections Mural will be revealed at 415 D Starr Street.
That mural dedication will begin at 1 pm with instructors Tony Armadillo and Sandra Gonzalez.
