Worried parents are calling for more crosswalks near a local elementary school.
Oak Park Elementary School sits on a busy part of Leopard Street, and parents are concerned because many kids do not use the nearest crosswalks to get to and from school because the crosswalks are at least a block away from the school itself and where students usually cross.
Instead of making the longer walk, those students will run across Leopard where there is no crosswalk, just to get to school. Obviously, it’s a big concern, especially in the morning and afternoon when traffic picks up.
I'll be speaking to the principal of the school, as well as the district's councilman about what's being done to make this area safer for students.
I'll have that full story this evening on KRIS 6 News.
