CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Next time you stop by H-E-B to get your groceries, don't forget to consider donating a dollar or two to Operation Supply Our Students.

The Operation S-O-S tear tab campaign kicked off Wednesday at area H-E-B locations.

When you're at the checkout, you'll see this paperless tear pad. Just tell the cashier you'd like to donate, $1, $3 or $5 and they’ll add it to your bill. You can even add the donation yourself when ordering groceries online.

This year, the United Way of the Coastal Bend will provide 18,000 students in our area with the school supplies they need that their families are not able to afford.

“That means that 43 school districts in 10 counties those kids who go to those schools will get school supplies for free,” said the United Way of the Coastal Bend's Stephanie Jordan. “They have basic needs to start the school year right.”

And to kick off the campaign, the United Way of the Coastal Bend purchased 44,000 lbs. of school supplies.

Volunteers helped sort through them Wednesday.

The United Way of the Coastal Bend was able to make that purchase through generous donations.

Holt CAT helped move all that cargo around.
