CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation will begin roadwork in Calallen. The state department will be adding a left-turn lane on FM1694 at its intersection with CR 48 in Nueces County. Work is scheduled to begin Thursday, April 2.

According to TxDOT, the project will provide a dedicated lane for motorists headed north on FM 1694 (Callicoatte Road) to turn left onto County Road 48. The addition of the turning lane would prevent vehicles waiting to turn to stall moving traffic. This would substantially reduce rear-end crashes, according to the Federal Highway Administration.

All work is scheduled to occur during the day and the project is estimated to be completed by the beginning of summer.

The construction may require that daytime traffic be reduced to a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction or in alternating directions with traffic controlled by flaggers.

Motorists are urged to be alert for any lane closures, to slow down in the work zone, to use alternate routes and to follow all traffic control instructions.
