Fishing Report: Sept. 20

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For your Fishing Report this Sunday, Capt. Mitch Deane has some advice on what you can expect.

"If there's live bait available, live shrimp under a popping cork, or if you can get croaker, that will be fine -- free-line croaker," he said.

Deane says to get up under some protected water near the King Ranch shoreline or against the east shoreline near Laguna Madre -- areas kinda south of Bird Island to the mouth of Baffin Bay.

Right now, seasons are changing for fishing here on the Texas coast, he said.

"There's different migration patterns, and we're coming up to a little bit of a winter season where these cold fronts and northern patterns are starting to come through," he said.

As for what bait to use when the seasons change, Deane says: "popping cork shrimp, as well as using lures because croaker season kind of ends around October."

Currently, gulf beaches are closed, which Deane said isn't a big loss since the surf would be too rough and unproductive, anyway.
