CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi's 'downtown" post office is closed temporarily after a concrete beam fell and crushed a moving truck.
Corpus Christi City Manager Peter Zanoni said Tuesday the beam is not load-bearing. It fell from the multilevel parking garage next to what is commonly called the "downtown" post office, located at 802 Tancahua, in uptown Corpus Christi.
Zanoni said the beam is not part of the garage's support structure, and only marks the garage's height. While the post office is located near the structure, it does not own it.
It is currently unknown what caused the beam to fall Sunday.
P.O. box customers for that location can get their mail at the Dr. H.P. Garcia Post Office (Main Office) at 809 Nueces Bay Blvd.
Its hours are 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Mon-Fri, and 8 a.m. -1 p.m. Saturday.
It's unknown how long the downtown location will be closed or what caused the beam to fall.
