CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Governor Greg Abbott says coronavirus testing in the state could increase as schools reopen.

Texas has averaged more than 34, 000 tests a day over the past week.

That's down from a daily average of more than 60-thousand in late July.

New cases and hospitalization rates have stabilized and decreased and the number of deaths in the state have reached nearly 8,500.
