CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — During this weekend’s services, the Church Unlimited on Bay Area Drive surprised three Uber Eats drivers with large tips.
Pastor Bil Cornelius said he prayed to God to send people who were in need of the money.
“It was totally unscripted, and we just kind of threw a prayer up, and said, ‘God just let the right person to come, that needs,’ and wow it worked out. God is good like that,” he said.
During the services, Pastor Bil collected money from people in attendance to use as a tip for the drivers. When the orders arrived, the drivers were called up on stage, not having any clue they would be receiving a big tip.
“I know it’s kind of personal, but has it been a tough year for you?” He said to one driver, Terry. “Yes, extremely hard,” she responded.
Another driver, Ronald, who is a veteran, said he had been praying all week for a little relief. “Well I think there’s a God who answers you,” Pastor Bil said to Ronald.
One driver, Jorge, didn’t speak much English, and Pastor Bil doesn’t speak Spanish, so the two were not able to communicate perfectly. When Pastor Bil presented him with the tip, Jorge took out his wallet to contribute, not understanding that the money was for him.
“It just showed you his heart, which was really a sign that this was the right guy, someone who was even willing to even give. We were like, ‘no put your wallet away, we want to give to you,’ and he ended up thinking maybe he would get a tip for a couple bucks and he walked away with $2,500. Which I think is a blessing to his whole family, obviously it was something they needed, and we’re just glad to be a part of it,” Pastor Bil said.
When Jorge realized the money was for him, he dropped to his knees in joy.
“Someone told me a long time ago, do what you can with what you have, where you are. So I hope and pray this inspires someone to say, ‘who can I help out? How can I make a difference?’ So when God gives you a knock on the shoulder, you say, ‘okay I hear you,’ and just be a blessing to someone,” Pastor Bil said.
In total, the church gathered more than $4,800 for the drivers, and inspired other Church Unlimited locations to do similar things during their services. Pastor Bil hopes he can inspire others do to good things for others.
“I love the fact that we get to do this. We’re one church trying to do good, but there are a lot of good churches around us. I would just challenge anyone during this holiday season to think about other people, and if you’ll just open your mind, it’s amazing the opportunities God will give you to make a difference in someone’s life,” he said.
