CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A young woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly assaulted a Corpus Christi police officer.

Police say they responded to the 3900 block of Surfside Blvd. around 4:22 p.m. on Tuesday in connection to an alcohol overdose call.

When a female CCPD officer arrived at the scene, she told her supervisor she found a woman who wasn't fully clothed. The officer said she tried communicating with the young woman, and moments later, the young woman became aggressive and lunged at the officer and started pulling on the officer's hair.

CCPD Public Information Officer Lt. Michael Pena said the suspect pulled out some of the female officer's hair.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Ashley O'Brien, was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily injury to a public servant. The CCPD officer was treated at the scene on North Beach.

Police say O'Brien is facing a third-degree felony. She was taken to the Nueces County Jail. Her bond was set at $15,000.

As of Wednesday evening, O'Brien posted bond and is out of jail.
