CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — No matter how fast first responders can be, bystanders will always be first on the scene.

A person can die from blood loss within a matter of minutes.

So a new state law - Stop the Bleed - is hoping to make a difference.

Today, CCISD police, nurses and security personnel were being trained at the CCISD Administration Building on how to stop bleeding in the event of an emergency.

Everyone who attended today will also train others at their respective schools.

As part of the law, schools will also be required to keep kits at different locations.

CCISD will place them where they have other emergency equipment.

"In CCISD right now we've got about 130 AEDs throughout the entire district and so we'll put kits at every location there’s an AED,” said CCISD Police Chief Kirby Warnke.

Those kits will include items like tourniquets, chest seals, scissors and compression bandages.
