BEEVILLE, Texas — Deputies with the Bee County Sheriff’s Office say illegal dumping is becoming more of a problem in county limits.
From tires and trash to much more, Beeville residents say illegal dumping is a real eyesore.
The BCSO took the matter to social media saying how illegal dumpsites are not only a health concern but also are an economic impact.
Deputies say these sites attract rodents, snakes and other pests. Bee County residents responded with their reactions saying how they’re tired of seeing these items on the side of the road.
“They need to stop, I don't know why they have to do that,” Beeville resident Lorenzo Ortiz said.
KRIS 6 News spoke to several residents who say the children who live in the area should not be looking at the mess illegal dumpers are leaving behind.
“Honestly, it shouldn't happen," Beeville resident Deborah Vera said. "I mean that's making the town look bad and trashy. If you're going to dump something, go to where it's allowed to be dumped."
BCSO officials say area residents can make a difference in their community by reporting the problem to the authorities, spread awareness to others and know this activity is a crime.
“Well, it's not right," Vera said. "You've got to keep your town clean and be respectful and appreciate our city,”
Officers with the Bee County Sheriff’s Office say if offenders are caught illegally dumping, they can be charged with a Class B or C misdemeanor or a state felony.
