Aransas Pass has a State of the City Luncheon every year to look back at the previous year, and to look ahead on what’s to come.

This is the first year Aransas Pass has joined with its school district for the luncheon.

Aransas Pass City Manager Gary Edwards will be speaking at the luncheon, and spoke with KRIS 6 News about what topics will be covered.

Edwards says there will be an update from last year's luncheon on Hurricane Harvey recovery.

“The recovery, as it relates to FEMA, and the recovery as it relates to grants," he said. "That’s a big part of what we’ll be talking about.”

In relation to Hurricane Harvey recovery, the luncheon will look ahead to what’s to come this year in relation to economic development and the City budget.

Edwards believes in order to have a successful running city, there need to be quality schools.

This year’s luncheon will also feature APISD Superintendent Cara Cooke, who will talk about the district's newest additions such as the Aransas Pass High School's new gymnasium, and the new Faulk Elementary School campus. Both projects were part of the $17.9 million bond from 2016.

Cooke says she will also talk about safety measures within the district, “and what that looks like, and what we’re still working on to ensure the safety of our students and staff each and every day.”

The Luncheon takes place at the Aransas Pass Civic Center, located at 700 W Wheeler Ave from noon-1 p.m. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. For more info you can find that Here
