An eight-car pileup near the SPID/Kostoryz Road intersection caused traffic headaches for drivers Friday morning. According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, that intersection saw the second-most number of accidents in 2019, making it one of the most dangerous in the city.

In fact, the top five most dangerous intersections are all along SPID. CCPD said those intersections are the busiest in the city, and see the most vehicle-to-vehicle accidents, vehicle-hitting-pedestrian accidents, and distracted-driving accidents.

The top five most dangerous intersections are:
SPID/Staples Street
SPID/Kostoryz Road
SPID/Airline Road
SPID/Everhart Road
SPID/Rodd Field Road

Employees who work at nearby businesses weren't surprised.

"It's very heavily condensed traffic, and there's usually about a wreck a day," said Marcus Muro, who drives near the SPID/Staples Street intersection every day. "(There are) close encounters everyday. People generally drive with disregard for anybody else's well-being in this area."

Lee Tisdale, who works at Batteries Plus Bulbs, has a front-row seat to the danger at SPID and Kostoryz Road intersection.

"I'm kind of surprised, but not really," he said. "(Sometimes) you hear tires screeching, and you're like 'Oh, what's that?' And then you hear a loud bang. We've had to run out and call 911, and make sure those people are OK because somebody runs a red light and they T-bone somebody else."

The Corpus Christi Police Department advises drivers to take your time when driving, avoid distractions like using your phone, and be aware of your surroundings at all time.
