A controversial statue in the city’s SEA District was removed today.
The Christopher Columbus statue that stood between the Solomon Ortiz Center and the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History was removed today to make room for a new Port of Corpus Christi administration building.
The Port says the statue will go into storage until it can be displayed again once the new administration building is complete.
The statue, by Coastal Bend sculptor Roberto Garcia, was dedicated in 1992.
Local Native American activists have asked that the statue remain in storage.
