Hurricane season officially kicked off this past weekend.

With that in mind, the Emergency Management Office invited business owners and outside agencies Monday to review how to keep their families and businesses prepared for a natural disaster.

The discussion included tips on how to keep your business going, providing support for employees, and how to look out for scammers.

“So in our discussion today, preparedness, we talked about mitigation, we talked about how to protect your facility,” said Billy Delgado, the city’s emergency management coordinator. “And, so you know, the goal is to bring everybody back up and running as soon as possible.”

Delgado says – according to statistics – 40 percent of business owners impacted by storms do not reopen following a disaster.
