Officers who were responding to a disturbance last night were met with gunfire as they arrived on the scene, Police Chief Mike Markle said. No officers were injured, and the investigation that followed turned up a grizzly discovery.

Just after 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of Antelope Street after reports of a disturbance. When officers arrived, one person opened fire on the police unit, Markle said. No one was hurt but the cruiser was struck several times.

Officers were able to take that person into custody without having to return fire, Markle said.

Investigating officers then discovered the bodies of two women in a neighboring apartment.

“The investigation that followed found two female victims of a homicide in one of the apartments next to the shooting,” Markle said. “I don’t have information on the females yet but there are two confirmed DOAs at this time.”

More information is expected to be released later today.
