American Red Cross volunteers are arriving to help at the Corpus Christi office.

Volunteers are participating in conference calls and making sure there are enough storm supplies.
Alex Garcia, the executive director of the Red Cross’ local chapter, said there 21 locations that can serve as shelters in case of major flooding in the Coastal Bend.

“We’ve got a couple of trailers that are already full,” Garcia said. “We have a couple of supplies today for backups when those shelters get activated and we got communication with the emergency operators to see if they’ve activated their centers.

“So that we have representation there. So, we’re communicating with each other.”

The Red Cross is looking for additional volunteers. If you’re interested, go to the its volunteer link at www.redcross.org.
