A Nueces County grand jury has indicted a Robstown man accused of killing his girlfriend’s daughter.

The jury decided Thursday there is enough evidence to send 21-year old Daniel Ortiz to trial.

Ortiz is charged with capital murder in the death of 18-month-old Arabella Sanchez.

Paramedics responding to a call at a home on the 500 block of Pat Sutter Road. When they arrived, they found Ortiz’s girlfriend Chasity Herrera holding her daughter, Arabella.

According to an arrest affidavit, the infant’s body was cold. There was redness and slight swelling around her eyes and nose. There were scratches on the victim’s nose and underneath her left eye. Paramedics also said the victim had swelling behind both of her ears and severe bruising along with swelling to the right side of her head.

Herrera was originally arrested and charged with the infant’s death but those charges were dismissed in late July after DMA evidence implicated Ortiz.

He’s being held at the Nueces County Jail on a $1 million bond.
