Veterans Memorial High School is implementing different ways to keeping their students safe, both physically and mentally. One of these ways is through a mentoring program. It’s called the SAFE Program, or Safety Alliance For Eagles Program.

“We just want to be proactive, in making sure that our campus is safe and providing those extra support services to our students by having these volunteers come on campus and to really connect with some of our students,” said Chris Hall, assistant principal for Veterans Memorial High School.

The program is looking for mentors and volunteers who are retired or active law enforcement, veterans, active military members, and dad’s of great students.

There will be a background check and schedule for the volunteers to follow.

“This is not some task force, this is not some military force that we are creating,” Hall says. “This is mentoring program to provide those extra supports to our students.”

The first meeting of the school year will be held in the Teaching Theater at 6 p.m. today at the school, 3750 Cimarron Blvd.
