LAREDO – Border Patrol Agents from Zapata rescued a mother and her two young daughters last week who had become exhausted while walking through the brush.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, agents were responding to suspected illegal entry near Falcon Lake on Aug. 30 when they found footprints and began tracking the subjects.
Agents followed the footprints for about two miles when they encountered a group of eight suspected undocumented immigrants.
Border Patrol says an immigration inspection determined the subjects to be Mexican nationals who had entered the U.S. illegally.
As the subjects were being escorted out of the brush, one of the agents noticed one of the female subjects and her young daughters struggling to keep up. The woman told the agent she was extremely fatigued and could no longer carry the 3-year-old girl.
The agent then carried the sleeping girl a half-mile to a waiting Border Patrol vehicle. All subjects were transported to the Zapata Border Patrol Station.
Border Patrol says that due to the high temperatures at the time the individuals were encountered, all were medically evaluated.
All of the subjects, including the woman and her two young daughters, were found to be in good health and not suffering any ill effects from the heat, Border Patrol said.
