The woman accused of driving the getaway car in the murder of a 13-year-old Corpus Christi boy is set to go on trial later this month.

Christina Trevino appeared in court this morning. Judge Jack Pulcher set her trial date for August 24. Jury selection is set to begin next Friday, August 17, with 800 potential jurors.

During Tuesday morning’s court hearing, Reynaldo Pena, formerly with the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office, announced he has been assigned to be the special prosecutor in this case.

Pena told Judge Jack Pulcher he is no longer with the Nueces County DA’s Office but was asked to step forward because he’s familiar with the case. Pena said he’s also worked with the family in the past.

Prosecutors Jenny Dorsey and Vincent Tang will assist Pena in the case.

Investigators say Trevino drove David Davila to the Treyway Terrace Apartments in January 2015 where Davila allegedly shot and killed 13-year-old Alex Torres. Trevino then allegedly drove Davila from the scene before police arrived.

Davila was reportedly looking for an ex-girlfriend and shot Torres by mistake when Torres answered the front door.

Trevino is charged with capital murder. She remains in the Nueces County Jail on $500,000 bail.
