CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two dump truck drivers are in the hospital after the sun blinded one of the drivers causing an accident.
The crash happened just after 8 a.m. today.
The two drivers with solid waste were heading down opposite directions on Civitan Drive off Ayers.
One driver became blinded by the sun and veered into an oncoming garbage truck, sideswiping it.
“Obviously, it wasn't an intentional act. the sun was in his eyes,” Corpus Christi Police Department Officer Shawn Barnes said. “To anyone else trying to avoid something like this, use some eye protection if you have to when the sun is rising. Use your visor … things like that.”
Both drivers sustained injuries to the face and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
No citations have been issued, but police are still investigating the incident.
