ALICE, Texas — Alice Mayor Jolene Vanover confirmed the first case in Alice in a news conference Friday.
She said the woman is between the ages of 20 and 25.
“The time has come. I come to you with great sadness in my heart. As the (Texas) governor said three weeks ago ‘It wasn’t a matter of if. It was a matter of when.’ The day is to today,” said Zanover. “The City of Alice’s Emergency Management Director, Emergency Management Coordinator and City Manager were made aware a few minutes ago from Region 11 Department of State Health Services and the Texas Division of Emergency management of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the City of Alice.”
Vanover assured citizens that Alice officials and Jim Wells County Officials are working to make sure the infected woman is kept isolated.
The case is being handled by the resident’s physician and the Texas Department of State Health Services.
