CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and school closures, local members of the high school ROTC program were recognized today.
The Purple Heart Chapter 598 held a drive up presentation at Sherill Park to present leadership awards to cadets.
Those who showed leadership within their program, were heavily involved in community service, and did well academically were honored.
The recognition and awards serve to inspire others to do the same.
"It's like hey, if this individual can do this, then I can also do this," said Martin Longoria. "So it's like a motivator for those other individuals who are freshman, sophomores, coming up through the program."
Cadets from 12 area schools were part of today's awards ceremony.
