CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For many, using rideshare can be a great source of transportation to get to your destination safely. However, if you want to catch an Uber, drivers and riders are expected to follow a few changes.
“No mask, no ride” is the phrase Uber wants all riders and drivers to know before they head to their destination. The adjustments are designed to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Our KRIS 6 News team spoke to Marcus Haas and he says for him, to keep his van clean, is an absolute must. Haas shares how riders are not allowed to sit in the passenger seat next to the driver. Drivers must also take a picture of themselves before they can pick up customers.
According to Uber, riders and drivers are required to mask or face covering before traveling into their appropriate vehicle and because of the global health crisis, Haas carries sanitizer, masks, and disinfectants.
Haas revealed how at times, these new restrictions had caused some confusion with riders, causing a drop in his star ratings, which affects his business.
“I had quite a few riders that got very irritated at me because I required them to have a mask because Uber required them to have a mask,” said Uber driver Marcus Haas.
Haas was also able to show that Uber mailed him face masks for some of his customers. The 5-year experienced driver says he does his part to stay healthy and educated.
“I hope people stay healthy and get the right information,” said Haas.
