CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Residents and staff at the Palms Nursing Home are feeling the light at the end of the tunnel after receiving the first does of the COVID-19 vaccine.

They are hoping the vaccine is the start of the end of the pandemic.

Shirley Faucet who received her first dose of the Pfizer vaccine was scared to ever step foot outside."It's just real amazing how they can work with medication. I'm glad i got he shot."

Maria Guerrero who works at the nursing home also has her mother there says she's thankful she gets to see her. Maria says her 94-year-old mother is also a survivor of COVID-19.

" I feel like they have gone beyond for this vaccine, so COVID can be done and not deal with it any more. So, we can go out there without a mask, I feel relief. “ Guerrero said.

Pamela Farias is a registered nurse and director of nursing at the Palms who also battled the virus. She's happy to know her residents will be protected. "Hopefully it will be successful. We will be able to stop the spread of the virus with this vaccine. That it will protect my resident as well as my staff, “ she said.

Farias is also excited that her residents will one day get to hug and see their families.

Residents and staff will receive the second dose of the vaccine in three weeks.
