CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Rapid COVID-19 testing in schools will soon be an option for districts to participate in.
Currently, there is a pilot program underway at eight school districts in Texas.
The testing allows schools to test district employees and students, with parent permission and obtain results in 15 minutes.
In two weeks, districts across texas can apply for the program.
Dr. Roland Hernandez, superintendent for the CCISD, says he's interested in the program but wants more information before making any decisions.
"What I would be careful with, I'd want to make sure kind of the validity of it more so than just jumping out there to say yes,” Hernandez said. “Because you don't want to scare people with false positives.”
Hernandez also said he's experienced the testing first hand.
At the beginning of the month when Gov. Greg Abbott was here to recognize Blue Ribbon schools, Hernandez and other officials had to undergo the rapid testing.
He says it was done on site and they had results within minutes.
