CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In the midst of COVID-19, people all over the country are making masks for their communities, including one area nail salon in Portland.
Q Nails and Spa was forced to temporarily close its doors due to the pandemic, and now it's using the space to help make face masks for area first responders and healthcare providers.
“They have been working for about 20 days or more, and they make hundreds of masks a day. Just because they are in high demand right now and everybody is either charging for them or it is always something, so why not give back,” said Q Nail and Spa employee Madison Aguire.
Instead of nail files and polish, sewing machines now sit on top of each nail station, and everyday0wner Henry Ho, and his employees work together to make masks for people to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“It is amazing that all of our techs love that they are able to help the community and that everybody is able to stay safe with what we are doing,” said Aguire.
So far employees have made more than 1,500 face masks.
“I am sure it gets tiring, but it is worth it. As you know, supplies are in high demand so we are just making until we run out of supplies. If anybody wants to donate to supplies that is fine, we are open to that,” said Aguire.
Q Nails and Spas say they will continue to work hard and make masks and feel that it's important for local businesses to help their communities in any way they can.
