ROCKPORT, Texas — COVID-19 has postponed or cancelled upcoming Rockport-Fulton football games for at least the next two weeks.

The district confirmed a positive novel coronavirus diagnosis among one of its student-athletes, and the games are being affected because of self-isolation guidelines.

Miller Head Football Coach Justen Evans informed KRIS 6 News Sports Director Alan Harwell on Thursday that Miller's game against the Pirates would be postponed until Sept. 18. The game was set for this Friday, but will now be played Sept. 18 in Rockport-Fulton. Tickets for this weekend's game will be accepted for the new date.

Tuloso-Midway Head Football Coach Wade Miller said the Warriors' game against the Pirates, scheduled for next week, has been cancelled. Tuloso-Midway now will be playing Falfurrias at 7:30 p.m. next Friday.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, Aransas County ISD said the affected person is a student-athlete on the varsity football team. ACISD is the district in which Rockport-Fulton High School resides.

"ACISD has begun the process of notifying students and staff members who were participating in the game as well as officials from the opposing team played Friday night in Aransas Pass," the statement reads. "We will follow UIL, TEA, and DSHS guidance to ensure that steps are taken to appropriately sanitize, contact trace, and monitor the situation."

CCISD Athletics Director Brenda Marshall released a statement saying the Miller's junior varsity and freshman games against Rockport-Fulton also will be rescheduled. They will now take place on Sept. 17, with the freshmen playing at 6 p.m. and junior varsity at 7:30 p.m.
