CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A local meal prep business is giving back to the community with free meals for first responders and medical staff.

Chef Tony, or Tony Nichols, is the owner and head chef of Chef Tony's Corpus Christi Meal Prep. They came up with a unique way to help those on the front lines during a global pandemic.

"Our campaign is called Buy One, Give One," said Nichols. "When one meal is purchased from our website, we donate a meal to our first responders, including fire, EMS, Police, and hospital staffs."

So far, they have been able to provide at least 350 meals with $1600 dollars in donations since the program began, according to Nichols. Some where given out last week, and some will be delivered next week.

"Last week we provided about 250 meals to 8 or so different fire stations here in Corpus and will begin again on Monday starting by giving meals to the staff at Spohn South about 5 p.m.," said Nichols.

He says the response has been positive.

"The people are amazing. At the beginning of the week they were extremely appreciative because of the long lines and scarce products at the grocery stores, and by the end of the week they were just happy to not have to cook and have something different than normal."

Chef Tony's Corpus Christi Meal Prep staff is also on board.

"They are happy to be working and helping with a great cause that is being supported amazingly by the community."

The program will continue until this all blows over. Anyone can show their support at https://corpuschristimealprep.com/

"We have never done a program like this before and quite frankly we really haven't had to," said Nichols. "This crisis is like nothing we've been a part of and with new challenges come new solutions for everyone... We are committed to this community and will serve it as long as there is a need to do so."
