CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A local church held service in its parish for the first time since Governor Abbott's announcement this month that churches are considered essential.

We stopped by "The Net Fellowship" in Flour Bluff, where services were held in the sanctuary for the first time in 6 weeks.

You know we've all been hiding out cage and we're coming out in the bright light thinking 'is it really okay? Is it really safe? Can I really come out now? I just thought, we could comply and we could do this. So why not?" said Glann Holland, church leader of The Net Fellowship.

Holland says they're doing all they can to still maintain social distancing while following other guidelines in place.

They hope to eventually fully re-open in phases.

Other area churches also hope to begin holding services once again in the coming weeks.
