A Kleberg county deputy has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to a release from Richard Kirkpatrick of the Kleberg County Sheriff's Office, the deputy does not reside in Kleberg County. Therefore he will not be counted in their case count.

Monday, June 15 was the last day the deputy worked in the public before he took a few personal days off. We are told he returned to work today for a few hours before learning his test results. He is now in quarantine.

Contact tracing performed by Sheriff Kirkpatrick identified 6 additional deputies, who will remain in quarantine for a minimum of 7 days and will be tested for COVID-19 on Monday.

Sheriff Kirkpatrick assures that the facility where this deputy worked has been thoroughly disinfected.
