CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Many of us feel a little helpless as our area first responders are working hard to keep us safe during COVID 19. One way to help a first responder, is by giving them a hot meal for the day.
The Coastal Bend Restaurant Association decided to offer donated meals to those that are on the front lines during this pandemic.
President of CBRA and Co-Owner of Snapka's Drive Inn, Kathy Snapka said, "it gives the community a way to participate by purchasing meals for those people, who are fighting for us."
The first restaurant on board was Water St. Oyster Bar, donating meals to first responders at the CCPD headquarters and SPOHN Shoreline hospital.
The program was then deemed 'Food for Firsts,' and the process is simple:
1. First find a first responder group on this list
2. Then choose from one of the 13 participating restaurants
"All the restaurants that have agreed to participate, have agreed to prepare the meals and have them delivered to the recipient."
This week, coincidentally, is Dispatcher Week. An anonymous donor decided to donate 16 meals from Snapka's Drive Inn to the CCPD Dispatch Center on Monday afternoon.
Dispatch Daytime Supervisor Christina Vuittonet said gestures like this really make them feel appreciated, "t’s a good feeling to know that we’re part of a team that helps out our community, and to know that we are able to provide a service for everyone in need."
CC Produce has also offered to donate $50 a week to each participating restaurant that is willing to donate meals in the 'Food for Firsts' Program.
