Freer city hall and police department closed after employee tests positive for virus

FREER, Texas — A city employee in Freer has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, prompting the closure of public buildings.

Freer Mayor Arnold Cantu released a statement announcing the city's actions regarding the city employee's positive test.

The individual is said to be in their 30's.

"The City of Freer received notification that an employee tested positive for COVID-19," the statement says. "Due to the circumstances, Freer City Hall and the Freer Police Department has been closed until further notice."

In the meantime, calls to the Freer Police Department will be routed through the Duval County Sherriff's Office. Also, Duval County Officers and Texas State Troopers will be patrolling the city.

City administrative offices have also been closed.

Duval County officials have reported 3 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
