CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales has learned that golf courses are not considered essential during the coronavirus pandemic.

Robert Durand of Canales' office said the judge likely will talk more about this at the city/county press conference at 5 p.m. today.

Because it was not addressed specifically in a written order, Canales' office does not know if closing golf courses was advisory or declarative.

Meanwhile, municipal golf courses in Alice and Kingsville shut down on Wednesday. Workers there say they feel Abbott clearly addressed their status in an conference call on Tuesday.

The Texas Muncipal League also sent out a letter.

We'll have more on the chance for golfing in the Coastal Bend during the COVID-19 crisis on our reports at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. on KRIS 6 News.
