CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Concerns with the coronavirus have hit areas hard economically and strict measures are in place to have people indoors.

This has also had major effects on tourism in Corpus Christi. Staff with the Convention Visitors Bureau say they are in a tough position and are doing their best to keep up with changes.

The spring season is a popular time for major hotspots like the Texas State Aquarium, U.S.S. Lexington to even the beach, crowded with tourists.

President and CEO of Visit Corpus Christi Brett Oetting says this is not just a tough time for Corpus Christi but for the whole tourism industry.

Visit Corpus Christi says in this challenging time, they are using social media heavily to let the pubic know about future anticipated events.

The tourism team is doing their best to work with these major hotspots and having major events not cancel, but to postpone to a later date.

“We’re really just trying to continue to communicate with the future visitors that right now we have to be safe we need to stay away from each other but the aquarium is still going to be here and the Lexington is not going anywhere when the time comes start planning your trip right now and we’re going to be ready for it,” Oetting said.

Visit Corpus Christi also says once the COVID-19 pandemic is over they believe tourism with becoming even stronger.
