ALICE, Texas — The Alice ISD announced that 11 of the 163 students and staff tested for coronavirus earlier this week were COVID-positive.

The results of 50 others who were tested on Wednesday are pending, the district announced.

Those who received a positive result have been notified by medical staff as the district continues to monitor their health.

The district cannot release the names of individuals or details because of privacy requirements.

And according to the district's guidelines, contact tracing is being conducted in order to notify anyone who may be in close contact, as outlined by the Center for Disease Control and the Texas Education Agency.

Another round of testing will be performed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday for Alice band students, band and choir directors, fifth-period choir students, strutters, cheerleaders and basketball team members. Make-up tests also will be performed for AHS football, volleyball, cross-country and tennis players who missed last week's original test.

Pre-registration is required no later than 3 p.m. on Sunday in order to test.
