CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In response to a huge uptick in COVID-19 numbers locally, a local blood center is offering an incentive to donors, in hopes of increasing donations of convalescent plasma.

Eligible donors will receive a $25 VISA gift card.

"If you have recovered from COVID-19 or know someone who has, please consider donating plasma to help patients currently battling the virus," says a post from the Coastal Bend Blood Center(CBBC).

The sentiment has also been shared by Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales, who spoke about it multiple times this week during local pandemic briefings.

"Every time someone who recovered from COVID-19 donates, we can save two lives," said Canales addressing the county.

According to a statement from CBBC, they are collecting convalescent COVID-19 plasma according to current FDA IND regulations.

"Convalescent plasma is being investigated for the treatment of COVID-19 because there is no approved treatment for this disease, and there is some information that suggests it might help some patients recover from COVID-19," says a statement from CBBC.
