CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Museums are on the list of businesses allowed to reopen on Friday.

However, the Art Museum of South Texas staff said it is extending its closure, which will help keep staff and customers safe.

The museum said it anticipates opening its doors back up to the public on June 2.

Art museum officials said the building has a lot of work to do before people stop by.

Art Museum of South Texas Director Sara Morgan said the building has been closed since March 15.

During that time, staff has been working from home, staying healthy and safe as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

Morgan said the museum needs more time to prepare for a new exhibit.

She also said she believes it may be a little too soon for customers to leave their homes.

“So we want to give them a little more time to adjust, go have dinner at your favorite restaurant go do some of these other things and let us get ready for you, and we will be here when June 2 rolls around,” Morgan said.

The art museum is also in the process of setting up sanitation stations and are working on rules for those who stop into the gift shop.
