CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — ongoing health crisis, gyms have been forced to close their doors across Texas.

However, reopening just like many other businesses have done prior, is on the way for these fitness centers.

According to Governor Greg Abbott, Texas gyms will be allowed to open on May 18.

Staff with Snap Fitness, 6534 Yorktown Blvd #104, are preparing to reopen on that same date.

“There will be some changes coming into place when we reopen our doors, it's not going to be normal but at least we will be open,” Snap Fitness co-owner Erin Easley said.

Easley says it was tough for her and her husband to close their doors to their members back in March.

Yet after Abbott made the announcement how gyms across Texas can reopen, the Snap Fitness staff is getting ready.

“Right now we're working hard since we got the news to just deep clean (and) sanitize everything,” says Easley.

Members and visitors who decide to stop must know, the gym will follow Abbott’s 25% capacity limit.

This means only 15 members can workout and break a sweat at a time.

Before entering the building, everyone will be required to wear face masks, gloves, and to have their temperature checked.

The gym will also follow social distancing guidelines.

“Anybody that has any symptoms, we're going to have turn them away,” says Easley.

Easley believes once her facility reopens its doors, the gym will be busy.

Staff also says these changes will be an adjustment, but the main aspect to focus on is to prepare and stay focused.

“No, never been through anything like this, and I'm sure we're not the only ones but it will be a challenge, nothing that we can't handle,” Easley said.
