CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — if you or someone you know suffers a stroke, the right medical care is essential.

Dr. Morgan S. Campbell III tells us what Christus Spohn Shoreline does so well to stand out nationally.

"When patients present themselves with a stroke, they are very rapidly assessed. as soon as you come into the door," Campbell said. "Doctors and nurses are evaluating that patient immediately to assess their stroke and (determine) if they're a candidate for certain treatments."

The hospital also provides patients with treatment plans and information for when they return home.

Strokes are a major health problem in Corpus Christi.

Campbell says his hospital treats between 700-900 stroke patients. Those patients are getting younger, he says. .

"We have people with just uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure starting at a young age, so instead of people in their 60's or their 70's, we have people having strokes in their 30's and their 40's." he said.

Many storke victims don't even recognize their symptoms and often those around them are who spot the symptoms first. He says everyone should educate themselves on the two words he swears by, "BE FAST."
