CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The US 2020 Census is hiring for over 4,000 jobs in the Coastal Bend.
Dalilah Garcia, Media Specialist of the South Texas region for the Census Bureau, says they are trying to meet their hiring goals and need people to apply before February 28th.
The US 2020 Census has seven operations that need to be filled, a large majority of applicants will become field representatives, where a person will go door-to-door to make sure everyone fills out a census.
Positions in the Coastal Bend will pay between $18-19 an hour. The Census will also pay 58 cents a mile and will compensate for background checks and all training.

It is important that everyone is accounted for through the census because funds granted to the area, will be distributed based on what is needed.
“We all want our share of the pie,” said Garcia. “So we have 675 billion dollars that can go through, more streets, more schools, more hospitals and we won't know what the community needs, unless people get themselves counted.“
Beginning March 12th, the census will be sending invitations to everyone to be counted. You can apply for the census through phone, mail or online.
