UPDATE: Man killed in kayak identified

According to Aransas Pass Police Chief, the victim is 31-year-old Trace Richardson.

No other info about his identity is available at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY:

It has been a deadly day on area waters.

The body of a man was found just north of the Redfish Bay Causeway this morning.

That’s the stretch of Highway 361 that runs between Aransas Pass and Port Aransas.

Police say it appears he was the victim of a boating accident. They are still looking for the operator of a boat that was involved in the accident.

According to police… it’s likely the operator of that boat didn’t even know they had collided with that kayak.

This morning around 7, officers were called to an area near Harbor Island Road where the body of a man was found floating in the water.

That man’s kayak was found severely damaged about a quarter of a mile away from where officers found his body. And they were able to identify that man with belongings found in his kayak and contact his family.

Police believe the man was fishing and was involved in a collision with a boat much larger than his kayak.

Police have not released the victim’s name or whether or not he lived here or was visiting from out of town.

Aransas Pass police are asking for any information from the public that may help them in their investigation.
