Downtown Corpus Christi has been steadily growing the past couple years. The Downtown Management District says a large part was the reconstruction of Chaparral St.

This month, three businesses are set to take off. Next to the Executive Surf Club, you’ll find Lucy’s Snack Bar. A quaint little shop offering sweet and savory snacks and beverages. They will soon be providing wine and beer and are expected to have late night hours. Moonshine & Ale seems like it will be a popular spot. It will be the only piano sing-along bar in the city, they’re set to open their doors Friday, May 24th. Further down Chaparral St., next to Mulligan’s, is a whole new eatery that plans to stay open late. Fresco will bring in the Hispanic culture downtown with a La Palatera style, offering fruit cups and corn cups.

Aside from businesses opening on Chaparral St., a new dessert shop has opened up off of Water St. It’s called Scoop Shack and it’s an ice cream parlor and retail compound. Scoop Shack owner, Emily Veazey says the growth downtown is helping others expand their businesses. Veazey says her business is just a summer venture for now, but depending on the demand she says she will see what ends up happening.

Scoop Shack’s grand opening will be this weekend, you can check them out at this months Artwalk.

The Downtown Management District says the greatest way to see what’s happening in the downtown area is to attend the monthly art walks.
