Councilman says Hillcrest, Washington Coles area forgotten in Downtown Area Development Program

According to District 1 Corpus Christi Councilman Everett Roy, Hillcrest and Washington Coles are 64 percent vacant.

He says that makes it difficult to justify spending significant amounts of public money there.

Many of the Hillcrest residents who have had to move out of their neighborhood because of construction of the new Harbor Bridge say they’ve felt neglected by the city.

Roy wasn’t there when the council approved the Downtown Area Development Plan.

He wasn’t picked to fill the then-vacant council seat until a month later.

Roy believes Hillcrest and the Washington Coles area were largely forgotten.

So what would he like to see done? And more importantly, who’s going to pay for it?

We’ll have more coming up this evening on KRIS 6 News.
