The Centers for Disease Control states there is no simple or single solution to fighting the obesity epidemic. But one local organization believes it starts with education at an early age.
Kid’s Get Fit is a non-profit organization, that offers free classes to children. These classes include nutrition, Zumba, fitness, yoga and mindfulness.
The Kids Get Fit program has also been implemented in the Corpus Christi Independent School District.
“So far we have targeted 30 elementary and middle schools, and have impacted about 2300 kids,” says Fitness Director, Beatriz Pena.
The goal is to grow the program into more schools throughout CCISD.
Whether it is learning about the main food groups, how to do squat jumps, or how to manage emotions, Kids Get Fit has something that no other program in the Coastal Bend can offer.
Their Stomp Into Fitness 5k/1k will begin at 7:45 am at Cole Park Amphitheater on Saturday, April 27.
