There will soon be more eyes watching what Corpus Christi police officers do.

The city council has approved the department’s request to buy more body cameras for the department.

The Corpus Christi Police Department is ordering 180 brand new body cameras for its officers.

While that isn’t one per officer, it is more than enough for every officer on duty at any given time, which was one of Chief Mike Markle’s goals.

These cameras will cost the department more than five hundred thousand dollars over the next five years.

Police Chief Mike Markle believes body cams are an invaluable tool.

Chief Markle says, “It helps tremendously for the public perception of trust, and if they think we’re doing the right thing.

As an additional cost-cutting measure the city will archive the video on local servers instead of using cloud technology.
