The city is getting ready to notify some customers about the money they owe to the utilities department.
As KRIS 6 News has reported, the city had a glitch in the utility billing software for utilities that led to a lot of customers being over-billed and others not getting a bill at all. The city says it’s been sending refunds to residents and businesses that were overcharged.
Now, interim IT director Peter Collins says staff is working to contact those customers who didn’t receive a bill.
“We have missed bills that we identified that’s about $3.5 million that we’re going to go ahead and we’re going to send out,” Collins told KRIS 6 News. “We identified those by checking the database, the utility billing system, and we looked and said, ‘Tell us the different months, the different customers — whether they’re commercial or residential — that never got a bill.'”
Collins says this issue has also been part of his regular updates to city council since he was hired on as a consultant last fall. He says the city could start sending out those missed bills out in the next couple of weeks.
